LockerDome, a St. Louis social media start-up founded by Gabe Lozano, seeks to connect athletes with their fans and in so doing, expand player brands.

The platform, which lets users consume content and interact with like-minded people around their favorite sports interests, is, at 13 million users strong, one of the fastest growing online sports properties in the world.

In addition to creating online sports communities for fans to rally around, LockerDome serves as a publishing platform for more than 1,500 professional athletes, brands, media personalities, and other sports properties, letting these entities reach a more targeted base. Sports agencies in particular are knocking on the company’s door, looking to use it to disseminate news and updates about a player along with off-the-field news. The platform gives representatives greater control over their clients’ messages as they seek out endorsements and appearance fees.

LockerDome expects to break through 25 million unique visits per month by end of this year, and has raised about $8 million from investors. Read more about it at Adweek.

Brief Take: With its social media integration and convenient tools for disseminating player news and updates, LockerDome is an especially appealing service for athletes looking to expand their endorsement opportunities.
