Rayna James may not be there, but the drama still is when Nashville returns.

CMT released a new trailer that provides a glimpse of what the second half of season five looks like without Connie Britton.

The trailer shows Rayna’s oldest daughter Maddie (Lennon Stella) and Clayton Carter (Joseph David-Jones) coming head-to-head with police in an altercation that echoes the Black Lives Matter movement. Scarlett (Clare Bowen) is also unsure about the father of her unborn child, and footage shows her and Gunnar Scott (Sam Palladio) at gunpoint.

The season also focuses on Deacon (Charles Esten) fighting to keep his record label Highway 65, as new cast member Rachel Bilson enters the scene. Kaitlin Doubleday (Empire) also joins the show.

Nashville returns Thursday, June 1 at 9 p.m.
