Fox began testing two new shows, “Kris” and “The Real,” on Monday, both of which kicked off with solid numbers.

Kris” is testing on the stations WNYW Fox, KDFW Dallas/Ft. Worth, KSAZ Phoenix, KMSP Minneaoplis, WJZY Charlotte and KTTV Los Angeles, where it topped fellow 3:00 p.m. time slot competitors “Steve Harvey,” “Katie” and even the old standby “Dr. Phil.” The Kardashian matriarch’s talker also fared well in New York, where its 1.1 rating among households was beaten only by “The Real” despite the fact “The Real” —starring Tamar Braxton, Loni Love, Adrienne Bailon, Jeannie Mai and Tamera Mowry-Housley—launched in less of a spotlight.

Brief Take: Fox’s test of “Kris” and “The Real” will be closely watched by Fox execs and the industry, to see if either or both shows are worth distributing nationally. Such tests, which serve as live focus groups complete with ratings, are becoming the norm in syndication.
