Jeff Glor has been named anchor of the CBS Evening News, and he will step into that role later this year, said CBS News President David Rhodes on Wednesday. The program will continue to be executive produced by Steve Capus.
“Jeff is a thoughtful, probing journalist with the versatility to anchor in any circumstance – from daily reporting to the most significant events of our time,” said Rhodes in a statement.
Glor has been with CBS News for 10 years, reporting for all broadcasts and digital platforms. He served as lead anchor at CBSN, the network’s streaming news service. Most recently, he covered Hurricane Irma and the Las Vegas shootings.
Anthony Mason, who had been serving as the broadcast’s interim anchor, will remain as a senior national correspondent at CBS News and co-host of CBS This Morning: Saturday.
“Anthony is a vital part of our CBS News anchor team and we thank him for stepping up during this important transition,” said Rhodes.
Glor, 42, joined CBS News in 2007 as a correspondent based in New York and won a News Emmy in 2011 for a story he did for CBS Sunday Morning. He anchored weekend editions of the CBS Evening News on Saturday from 2009-10 and on Sunday from 2012-16. In 2011, he anchored The Early Show.
Prior to joining CBS News, Glor was weekend evening news anchor and weekday reporter for WHDH Boston from 2003-07. Before that, he was co-anchor of the 5 p.m. newscast on WSTM Syracuse, N. Y., a reporter for the station’s 11 p.m. newscast and morning news anchor. He started his career in 1997 as a news writer at WSTM.
Glor was born in Tonawanda, N.Y., and graduated magna cum laude from Syracuse University in 1997 with dual degrees in journalism and economics.
He lives in Connecticut with his wife, Nicole, and two children, Jack and Victoria.
