Hulu’s new sci-fi anthology series Dimension 404 plunges into the weird and frightening world of the digital age, focusing on the evolution of, and society’s reliance on, technology.
“In the darkest depths of cyberspace there is a lost dimension, home to wonders unseen, terrors unspeakable and stories unlike any ever told,” according to the latest trailer.
Although in the same vein as Netflix’s Black Mirror, which offers a bleak look at possible, not-so-distant digital futures, Dimension 404’s lighter approach is less likely to leave viewers depressed for days. As the trailer puts it:
“It’s like watching Star Wars for the first time.”
From a sciene fiction perspective, it’s more in line with iconic series such as as The Twilight Zone and Outer Limits.
Ranging from creepy to playful and even funny, hour-long episodes explore time travel, a new too-good-to-be-true dating app, and the desire to just go to a movie and not have it ruined by technology.
Narrated by Mark Hamill, Dimension 404 also features Patton Oswalt, Joel McHale, Robert Buckley, Lea Michele, Megan Mullally, Constance Wu, Ashley Rickards and Sarah Hyland.
Hulu released the first three episodes on April 4, with the remaining three episodes to follow in the coming weeks.
