“Extortion, sex trafficking, money laundering and racketeering,” were the charges faced by Larry Ray, 62, the father of a student at Sarah Lawrence College who was convicted of those crimes last April. Ray started as a weird dad who seemed to be just crashing on a couch in his son’s dorm but finished as a convicted criminal who led a small cult at the elite private school for a decade.

Hulu digs into that cult at Sarah Lawrence College in its new docuseries, Stolen Youth: Inside the Cult at Sarah Lawrence. Oscar- and Emmy-nominated documentary director Zachary Heinzerling directed and worked closely with cult victim Daniel Ray and others to make the series. It includes interviews with Ray’s victims, incorporating audio tapes and video recordings to tell the story of how the ex-CIA operative influenced a group of students for a decade. The series follows the story from the cult’s origins in 2010 until its final recent demise as the last remaining members find their paths out.

All three episodes of Stolen Youth: Inside the Cult at Sarah Lawrence premiere Thursday, February 9 on Hulu.
