To introduce new chief meteorologist Jamie Kagol, the promo team at Sinclair-owned WEYI/WSMI Flint, Mich., crafted this spot, The Uber Weatherman, featuring Kagol predicting—and avoiding—all sorts of weather.

The spot was shot in 4K with the Sony FS7 using S-Log3. To capture movement, the team used a Telemetrics dolly riding on flex-rail. Lighting consisted of Ikan 508 series LED lights mounted on stands, mostly backlighting both sides to create a graphic-novel-esque style of light. The “reactive” lighting from the lightning flash was created in post – no strobe lights were used.

The mailbox and other tornado debris were suspended on monofilament against a green screen.

The rest of the shots were generated in post utilizing Cinema 4D, After Effects and Trapcode’s Particular and Mir. Editing was accomplished via Adobe Premiere.
