To celebrate the annual awarding of the Vasyl Stus Prize for poetry in the Ukraine, TV channel Ukraine launched a series of spots dedicated to its presentation.
Stus is a Ukrainian poet, translator, literary critic, journalist, and an active member of the Ukrainian dissident movement. For his political convictions, Stus’ works were banned by the Soviet regime and Stus himself spent 13 years in detention until his death.
In the spots, Ukrainian celebrities including singer Natalia Zhyzhchenko, Oleksandra Koltsova, news anchor Oleg Panyuta and chief editor of Ukrainska Pravda Sevgil Musaeva read from Stus’ poetry, which represents the voices of Ukrainian dissidents.
“We set a goal to create a movie with original and non-standard form of presentation,” said TV Ukraine Creative Director Roman Shoma in a statement. “The main idea was to convey the life and career of the great poet by four different characters. It is quite difficult and ambitious attempt to recreate on the screen the image of this multifaceted and talented artist.”
