Nearly 30 years ago, the New York Mets’ Mookie Wilson hit a ground ball that slipped through the legs of Boston Red Sox first baseman Bill Buckner, sending the World Series to Game Seven and an ultimate Mets championship.
In its new spot for MLB Network, The Collective @ LAIR and director Thor Raxlen pair up to recreate that classic moment, setting Wilson and Buckner in several real-world scenarios that recalls the moment.
The spot was shot with a camera mounted on a MOVI stabilizer unit, allowing the shoot to be spontaneous and reactive to Wilson’s and Buckner’s genuine interactions. Reminiscent of classic buddy films, these moments capture the natural relationship between the two players and derive comedy from their chemistry.
Baseball’s post-season gets started on Tuesday, Oct. 4, with the World Series starting on Fox on Tuesday, Oct. 25. MLB Network is sharing several National League playoff games with Fox Sports 1.
