In honor of the anniversary of the Civil War’s most epic and bloody battles, Gettysburg and Vicksburg, History Channel is launching Civil War Week starting June 30, including a dedicated Civil War Today app, designed to appeal to its historical fact-finding audience who can’t seem to get enough of the topic on air.
History Channel will showcase Civil War-related and Gettsyburg-related content on air including “Gettysburg,” Tony and Ridley Scott’s film, as well as other documentaries on air and short-form video content. HISTORY.com also has plans for a live streaming event at the site of Gettysburg in partnership with the National Park Service.
For the mobile history lovers, the Civil War Today iPad app will be available for a limited time for $0.99 and rolls out the war’s most important events and dates in real time and primary documents like diaries and maps for History fans to sink into. Lastly, History is bringing back its successful Give 150 campaign to help preserve Civil War historical sites.
Brief Take: This integrated marketing effort, with its charitable bent and National Park Service collaboration, could really appeal to History’s biggest fans, turning them from mere loyal viewers to brand ambassadors.
