“It’ll probably be that they’ll take me out of here in a body bag,” says one diehard resident of Port Protection, Alaska, subject of National Geographic’s latest installment of docuseries Life Below Zero: Port Protection.

As the spots above and below reveal, the denizens of the Alaskan village work hard and live off the land, braving difficult winters to make their homes there. While it can get tough and frustrating, they wouldn’t change it for the world.
