​”The Simpsonscouch gag has become one of the most recognized and ever-changing opening sequences in TV, and artists like Banksy have been given the honors to animate the couch gag in the past.

This year, the “Treehouse of Horror” couch gag was created by “Pacific Rim” director Guillermo del Toro, and the result is full of monsters, animated violence and the general destruction of Springfield.

The couch gag, released this week, follows a military attack on zombies, a cyclops, radioactive Homer, UFOs, and homages to “Pan’s Labyrinth,” Stephen King, “The Birds,” Edgar Allan Poe and many many more horror and movie greats.

In its 25th season, “The Simpsons” premiered this week on Fox as the No. 1 series of the night for viewers 18-49. And now that Fox has picked up the series for its 26th season, the Emmy-winning series has become the longest-running scripted show on TV.
