FX’s new dance musical series, Pose, will make its debut on Sunday, June 3, the network said Thursday.

The series shines a light on New York City’s underground transgender community in the 1980s, with Evan Peters and Kate Mara playing a New Jersey couple who get lured into the era’s glamour and intrigue, including ballroom culture and voguing.

“I am encouraged to be all the things that the outside world would think of as freak,” says one woman. “I didn’t know if I was going to be accepted into the regular world, so I decided to go somewhere where I felt like I fit in,” says another. “It’s about being alone and then finding people who are just like you,” says a third.

The cast also features the largest group of transgender actors to ever appear together in a scripted series, including Mj Rodriguez, Dominique Jackson, Indya Moore, Hailie Sahar and Angelica Ross. Also co-starring are James Van Der Beek, Billy Porter, Charlayne Woodard and newcomers Ryan Jamaal Swain and Dyllon Burnside.

Pose is co-created by Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Steven Canals, with Murphy directing the first two episodes. The series is executive produced by Murphy, Falchuk, Nina Jacobson, Brad Simpson, Alexis Martin Woodall and Sherry Marsh. Canals is a co-executive producer, and Janet Mock, Our Lady J and Erica Kay also serve as producers. Alexa Fogel is the casting director. The eight-episode first season is produced by Fox 21 Television Studios and FX Productions.
