With Guillermo del Toro’s The Shape of Water nominated for 13 Academy Awards, now might be exactly the right time for Freeform to tell the story of a modern-day mermaid. It’s new series, Siren, opens in a two-hour premiere on Thursday, March 29.
In both stories, a powerful human-like creature comes from the sea. In Siren, the creature, Ryn (Eline Powell) starts wreaking havoc on the town of Bristol Cove, long rumored to have once been a home for mermaids.
The series also stars Alex Roe, Fola Evans-Akingbola, Ian Verdun, Rena Owens and Sibongile Mlambo. It’s based on a story by Eric Wald and Dean White who both also serve as executive producers. Emily Whitesell is showrunner and executive producer, along with Brad Luff, Nate Hopper and RD Robb.
Besides the first official teaser trailer, Freeform also released the show’s key art, by busterINK, on Tuesday:
