Fox’s WAGA Atlanta this week debuts its new high-definition news set, designed by Crested Butte, Colo.-based Devlin Design Group.

“Our collaboration with FOX 5 Atlanta produced a design unique not only to Atlanta, but to the industry as well,” said Dan Devlin, owner and chief creative strategist, Devlin Design Group, in a statement.

WAGA produces many hours of local news each week, and each newscast needs to have its own look and feel. This versatile set allows for that, with lots of customizations that allows news directors to change the sets mood, tone and color at a whim. The set also is designed to use the latest technology to tell stories, including video and social media. Several backlit video walls line the studio, and incorporated to those are several video storytelling spaces, including the social media pod, and a video kiosk.

The designers integrated two video presentation towers into the set, giving reporters another on-set area to present their stories.

And there’s a pivoting storytelling wall that opens out at a 90-degree angle, giving the reporter a dedicated space to introduce his story. Once that’s complete, the wall can pivot back into the main video wall to become part of the overall set. The reporter can then walk along the wall to keep telling the story, while pointing to additional graphical and visual changes.
