Fox Sports Digital has acquired popular sports startup Fanhood, a social gaming platform that let fans make wagers using virtual chips.

The deal includes all of Fanhood’s assets, including its intellectual property, as well as hired employees. The heart of that work team includes founder and CEO Brandon Ramsey and his team of engineers, who will join with the personnel at Fox Sports-owned Yardbarker in San Francisco to create a platform technology center for Fox Sports Digital in the Bay Area. In his new role as VP of platform engineering, Ramsey will head up personalization and social product development for Fox Sports Digital.

The deal comes as Fox Sports continues to work out the kinks in a TV Everywhere service that was supposed to launch concurrently with Fox Sports 1 this weekend.

“We believe in developing applications that make following sports with your friends easier and more fun,” Ramsey said in a statement. “We look forward to applying our expertise to Fox Sports Digital’s vision of creating a personalized, socially integrated content platform.”

Brief Take: Fox Sports Digital has acquired Fanhood more for its personnel than for the digital assets. With Ramsey on board, the company has beefed up its technology leadership going into the relaunch of FoxSports.com.
