Fox is adding two key hires in its programming and development department today, hiring industry executives from CBS Television Studios and Funny or Die, weeks after announcing it planned to expand its teams for both comedy and drama.
The development and programming teams were combined this March, and will now be headed by Beth Miyares, SVP of drama development and programming, and Conor Welch, VP of comedy development and programming.
Miyares, who heads to Fox from CBS Television Studios where she headed drama development and pilots such as “Hawaii 5-0,” “Elementary” and “Reign.” Prior to CBS, Miyares was VP of current programming at Fox in the era of “Fringe” and “Prison Break.” “As our drama offerings continue to grow in number, quality and scope, it’s vital that we have a strong core of proven senior leaders to help nurture the series and support the creators every step of the way,” said Terence Carter, EVP of drama development and programming.
Welch comes from a comedy background at Funny or Die, where he served as head of feature film. “Conor is an incredible creative mind and brings a wealth of comedy expertise and talent relationships to our team,” said Suzanna Makkos, EVP of comedy development and programming. “With a pedigree from Funny or Die and Red Hour Films, Conor is exactly the type of executive we were looking for.”
The new hires come only days after entertainment chair Kevin Reilly, advocate for the dismantling of pilot season, announced he would be leaving the network.
