Karen Lamas Tobin, former PromaxBDA chair and senior VP of corporate partnerships at Advanced Imaging Society, died Friday, July 22 in her Woodland Hills, Calif. home after a long battle with cancer. She was 62.

Tobin served on the PromaxBDA Board of Directors from 1994 - 2003.

She was also instrumental in the creation of Advanced Imaging Society, helping to form its predecessor, the nonprofit group International 3D Society that supported 3D movies in theaters.

“Karen Tobin has been a friend, a trusted colleague, and a superb executive serving our industry, our member companies, and the society,” Advanced Imaging Society President Jim Chabin, and former PromaxBDA CEO, told Variety. “For those of us who worked with her every day, she was also an absolutely awe-inspiring role-model for the way she faced her cancer diagnosis and its process. As the years of illness took more from her, she focused more than ever, and to the very end, on her work. She did it with dignity, grace and integrity. No more could ever be asked of, or received from, a colleague.”

Tobin previously worked as the head of marketing communications at KNBC from 1997 - 2000, and was VP of national promotions at Fox Broadcast from 2003 - 2004, where she was involved in promotional strategies for American Idol and other programs. She got her start in radio marketing at CBS Radio (K-Earth), Westwood One, and KIIS FM.

She also served as the Southern California president of American Women in Radio and Television.

Tobin was born in 1953 in Oakland, Calif. She received a degree in zoology from UC Davis, and and an MBA from Pepperdine University’s School of Business in 1999.

Funeral services were held Tuesday at Santa Maria Cemetery in Santa Maria, Calif.
