It’s been a big couple of months for Dr. Who, who celebrated his 50th anniversary last month.
This month, the franchise says good-bye to Matt Smith, the series’ 11th doctor, during its Christmas special, “The Time of the Doctor,” airing at 9 p.m. ET Christmas night on BBC America.
Once the presents are opened and the dinner is eaten, fans can sit down to a whole night of Dr. Who programming, including the six-minute prequel, “The Night of the Doctor,” at 6 p.m. ET. That will be immediately followed by an encore of the 50th anniversary special, “The Day of the Doctor,” in which the whole Dr. Who timeline was reset, allowing for the series to take some new turns when Doctor #12, Peter Capaldi (BBC’s “The Thick of It”), comes in next year. An all-new special, “Farewell to Matt Smith,” airs at 8 p.m. ET, leading into “The Time of the Doctor.”
For true Matt Smith fans, there’s also this: “11 Things We’ll Miss About the 11th Doctor,” including his many, many hats.
