Former Heisman Trophy winners Robert Griffin III, Barry Sanders, Tim Brown, Carson Palmer and Desmond Howard have never been on the same team. But thanks to ESPN and Nissan, they and a group of other former and current NFL players who have also won college football’s top honor, can be in the same house.
Nissan and ESPN are giving fans and viewers the opportunity to interact with 13 winners of the Heisman Trophy, all of whom are being brought together at a dedicated website that is home to The Nissan Heisman House.
The third season of the The Nissan Heisman House brings back Griffin, Sanders, Brown, Palmer and Howard, as well as Ty Detmer, Ron Dayne, Matt Leinart and Troy Smith; and will add to the mix Sam Bradford, Earl Campbell, Tony Dorsett and Mike Rozier.
The effort supports Nissan’s sponsorship of the Heisman Memorial Trophy Award, adding for the first time a real Heisman House Tour that will travel to college campuses throughout the season. It also enables fans to cast a vote for whom they think should be the next Heisman Trophy winner.
The website and vignettes featuring each of the participants debuts August 31 prior to ESPN’s “Saturday Night Football” game on ABC. They will then run on other ESPN platforms throughout the college football season.
The first Nissan Heisman House spot, “Flashback,” has debuted on YouTube, featuring Griffin, Bradford, Howard, Sanders, Dorsett and Campbell. It shows each of the players wearing jerseys from their respective colleges.
Visitors to the website can tour the house, learn about current members and watch behind-the-scenes footage and interviews filmed during the campaign production. Nissan vehicles, including the 2014 Altima, Sentra and Versa Note, are integrated into the site and the campaign.
“The sustainability of the original concept with fresh scripts, new athletes and ability to showcase new vehicles year over year is a tremendous creative story, which is a testament to the power of the idea,” Sean Hanrahan, SVP of marketing solutions for ESPN, said in a statement.
