Ahead of the 2019 Pan American Games in Lima, Peru, ESPN tapped Miami-based boutique Bonsai3 to carry out a new marketing campaign for its coverage of the event.

Bonsai3 collaborated with ESPN Sports Marketing and ESPN CreativeWorks to develop the above spot starring Peruvian singer-songwriter Gian Marco. He performs an original song, “Triumph is My Destiny,” which “celebrates the intrinsic values ​​of the Pan American Games: excellence, friendship, respect and courage,” ESPN said in a statement.

“This song is based on the dreams, desires and feelings of an athlete, which aims to achieve personal triumph and with this, represent his country,” Gian Marco added. “…This song is of encouragement [and] is dedicated to them. It’s a love song of self-love. ”

The song was used as the official anthem and opening music for ESPN’s linear and digital coverage in Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean. Here’s a behind-the-scenes look at the making of the music video:

The Pan American Games were hosted Lima, Peru from July 26 to August 11. The annual sporting event includes gymnastics, athletics, diving, soccer, swimming, boxing, volleyball, basketball, baseball, weightlifting and more.
