Fox’s hit Empire is continuing to live up to its big ratings promises in season two, finishing off the first half of the season Wednesday night with a 38 percent jump in the ratings.

The season two midseason finale saw 11.5 million tune in, the highest ratings in a month for the show and an almost 40 percent increase since the Thanksgiving week episode (which was a series low). Its lead-in, Rosewood, also jumped in ratings, showing a 17 percent increase from last week. The bump helped Fox to win the night in the adults 18-49 demo.

The episode, “Et Tu, Brute?” is also expected to jump in delayed viewing, as the show typically does, with updates coming in over the next few days. Empire has been averaging upwards of 18 million viewers in Live +7 numbers this season. If it’s going to compete with the first season, Empire has to get back to its March ratings of 21 million viewers in delayed viewing.

Recent midseason finales have also spiked elsewhere, with The CW’s Arrow/The Flash crossover ending with a season high for Arrow.

Brief Take: Fox’s drama hit is going on a three-month hiatus now with a bit of a ratings bump, but it’s up to the network to make sure its viewers don’t forget Cookie and her crew with other marketing and promotional ideas.
