Dr. Mehmet Oz, host of the syndicated, Emmy-winning “The Dr. Oz Show,” is partnering with Hearst Magazines to publish a lifestyle periodical. The new magazine will hit the newsstands in the first quarter of 2014, followed by a second issue. If a success, Hearst will make the magazine a regular publication in the second half of 2014.

The publication, like Oz’s show, will be upbeat and optimistic, covering physical and mental well-being, nutrition, beauty, news, travel and finances. Dr. Oz has long been a fixture of other Hearst magazines, appearing in many of the company’s other titles, which include “Good Housekeeping,” “Elle,” “Redbook” and “Woman’s Day.”

The news come following the renewal of “The Dr. Oz Show” across 16 Hearst TV stations through 2016-17.

Brief Take: Print may be a slowly dying industry, but shows like “Oz” demonstrate that tying a printed magazine into an established TV brand can still be a powerful marketing tool.
