HBO revealed a minute-and-a-half trailer for the upcoming miniseries The Night Of, starring John Turturro and Riz Ahmed.

The series delves into a fictitious New York City murder case, following the police investigation and legal proceedings, all the while examining the criminal justice system and the purgatory of Rikers Island, where the accused awaits his trial.

Ahmed (Nightcrawler) plays the accused with Turturro as his lawyer.

From creators Steven Zaillian (Schindler’s List, The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo) and Richard Price (The Wire), the show was originally a passion project of the late James Gandolfini, greenlit in 2013 with the title Criminal Justice and loosely inspired by the 2008 BBC series of the same name. The 2013 project was set to feature Gandolfini as a jailhouse attorney who meets Naz, an American-born Pakistani with no memory of his accused crime of stabbing a young woman to death.

The Night Of premieres Sunday, July 10 at p.m. with a 90-minute episode, followed by seven hour-long episodes.
