Who fans can’t wait to see the new Doctor in action when Peter Capaldi takes over on Aug. 23 in the long-running series Doctor Who, but one fan didn’t want to wait to see. Graphic artist Billy Hanshaw created his own main title sequence for the BBC series and posted it on his YouTube page.
But then, the impossible happened: producer Steven Moffat saw the video and commissioned Hanshaw to create a new title sequence for the show based on his original post.
The video was meant to feel “ancient/steampunky,” according to his original YouTube post, following his mantra of a “journey through space and time.” The sequence flies at high speed inside the Doctor’s watch, heading past cog wheels and spiraling clock faces. Long-time fans can see the finished product when Doctor Who debuts on BBC and BBC America Aug. 23.
