As part of Disney’s company-wide Healthy Living Commitment, Disney Channels Worldwide will introduce a series of fun but health-focused interstitials starting Friday.
The short-form interstitials showcase the work of animators James Curran and David Calcano and feature characters from popular Disney kids’ shows such as The Lion Guard, Miles from Tomorrowland and Star Wars Rebels. The interstitials will be in daily rotation on Disney Channel, Disney XD and Disney Junior and have the potential reach more than 500 million households on 116 channels worldwide.
“We have an ongoing dialogue with parents who tell us they appreciate our efforts to model healthy lifestyle choices. One of the ways we do that is by ensuring healthier standards for food products seen within our kids television, radio and digital programming, and by using our platforms to inspire kids to eat nutritious foods and be active,” said Gary Marsh, president and chief creative officer, Disney Channels Worldwide, in a statement.
On Friday, Disney Junior will premiere a workout video for kids aged 2-7 called “Teke Ruka Teleza” (“Kick, Jump, Slide”), created in consultation with Dancing With The Stars’ Paige Peterson.
On Saturday, Disney Junior will debut another short, “Be Your Best with Miles,” starring Miles from the animated Miles From Tomorrowland.
On Monday, Sept. 26, Disney Channel will begin airing a series of short-form videos created snd animated by David Calcano that features characters from The Adventures of Papchu. The music-filled videos encourage kids to make healthy food choices to help them get through the day.
Also on that day, interstitials featuring Disney XD characters from Star Wars Rebels, Star vs. The Forces of Evil, Future-Worm! and Gravity Falls will debut on the channel. Motion-graphic designer James Curran uses GIFs in his series, Improve Your Selfie, to cleverly deliver messages to kids about the importance of exercise and healthy eating.
And on Monday, Oct 3, Rafiki, Kon, Beshte, Fuli, Ono and Bunga from Disney Junior’s The Lion Guard will take kids through simple yoga-inspired workouts.
The Disney Healthy Living Commitment partners with parents in their quest to raise healthy, happy kids. The commitment provides kids and families with engaging content, useful tools and unique experiences to help them eat better, be more active, and be their best.
