As of Jan. 15, 2015, Discovery Fit & Health will be known as Discovery Life Channel, under a new “life, unexpected” branding umbrella.

The channel will target women 25-54 with a mix of current programming and new series that expands on the existing health and medical-related brands.

“This transition signifies Discovery’s commitment to providing audiences with the very best non-fiction content on television, and we are excited to unveil a reinvigorated network that aims to attract new viewers while delivering the high-quality and high-stakes programming our current audience loves,” said Henry Schleiff, group president of Discovery Life Channel. “Broadening to Discovery Life Channel gives us a chance to make bigger, bolder programming choices while always, central to our brand mission, revealing life at its most critical turning points.”

New programming staples include “Families on the Brink,” “Ripped Kids” and “Tales from the Maternity Ward,” all series that focus on relationships and “life-altering moments.” The channel’s medical lineup of shows such as “Medical Mysteries” and “Trauma Drama” will remain on the schedule as well as the network’s health and medicine foundation as it begins to branch out. The network will continue to live at its online hub as well, DiscoveryLifeChannel.com.

The name change was announced a day before the Discovery presentation at the TCA summer tour.
