Three Gelfing heroes will embark on an epic quest to save their world in Netflix’s The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance.
Based on Jim Henson’s 1982 feature film, the 10-episode series takes place many years before the events of the film. The two-minute teaser re-introduces viewers to the beautiful world of Thra, home to the powerful Crystal of Truth.
But when it becomes corrupted by the evil Skeksis, sickness spreads across the land, threatening the future of the planet. Deet, a Gelfing later tasked with saving the land, discovers this horrifying secret through a premonition of the future from a plant-like being.
“All Thra is at risk. The Darkening corrupts everything it touches,” it warns.
The series also honors the original film by using old-school puppets, created by Jim Henson’s Creature Shop and Brian Froud, instead of computer animation. Director Louis Leterrier, Halle Stanford, and Jim Henson’s daughter, Lisa Henson, executive produce.
Taron Egerton, Anya Taylor-Joy, and Nathalie Emmanuel lead the cast. It’ll also feature Mark Hamill, Helena Bonham Carter, Natalie Dormer, Eddie Izzard, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Simon Pegg, Andy Samberg, Mark Strong, Alicia Vikander, Toby Jones, Shazad Latif, Theo James, Caitriona Balfe, Jason Isaacs, and Keegan-Michael Key.
Netflix also released its stunning key art for the fantasy series:
