There’s front row seats, and then there’s being on the dance floor — or at least feeling like you are with ABC’s virtual reality 360 video for Monday night’s episode of Dancing with the Stars.
Fans can click and drag within the 360-degree video clip to see the dancers from different perspectives as they perform an opening disco routine set to Donna Summer’s Last Dance, choreographed by Mandy Moore. The video is available on the Dancing with the Stars Facebook page and YouTube channel, and through Littlestar’s VR app for headsets, mobile, Apple TV and the web.
“We have been building an in-house expertise in this area and wanted our first project to be a visual feast, which it is,” Robert Schefferine, VP production, ABC Entertainment marketing, told ABC. “It truly captures all the excitement, glamour and talent that is Dancing with the Stars.”
ABC also launched VR experience for Quantico in March, and ABC owner Disney has been experimenting with the technology, Variety reports. The company released a Disneyland VR experience produced by VR camera maker and production company Jaunt, and in March Lucasfilm’s ILMxLab released a Star Wars VR experience. ABC told Variety the network plans to release a Nashville VR video later this month.
