Famed solo percussionist Evelyn Glennie will open the PromaxBDA Europe Conference in London later this month, the organization announced Thursday.
Glennie, who is the first woman to build a successful full-time career as a solo percussionist—despite being profoundly deaf—will discuss “The Art of Listening” and how our sound environment impacts every aspect of our lives.
“Dame Evelyn Glennie’s story is inspiring and one that everyone in our audience will be enlightened by,” said Jill Lindeman, SVP, Conferences & Strategic Partnerships at PromaxBDA. “Her connection with sound and her understanding of it’s impact on everyday life is unlike no other, demonstrating that her own world silence is filled with more music than most.”
Almost completely deaf by the age of 12, Glennie is now a highly sought-after composer and gives more than 100 performances a year around the world.
She has 86 international awards to date, and was awarded a Dame Commander of the British Empire in 2007.
The two-day PromaxBDA Europe Conference opens on Monday, March 24, in London.
