On the occasion of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Disney Branded Television reached out to Atlanta-based design studio Creative Mammals to create an animated spot aimed at teaching kids about the civil-rights leader and why we celebrate a holiday in his name.
The topic is particularly relevant after a year marked by protests against racial injustice as well as many incidents in which white supremacists asserted themselves, including the Jan. 6 assault on the U.S. Capitol while lawmakers were certifying the results of the 2020 Presidential election.
To animate the spot, Creative Mammals called in Atlanta-based illustrator, George F. Baker III. Creative Mammals used cel animation and 2D motion graphics to bring Baker’s playful illustrations to life, escorting viewers through MLK’s life story.
The spot airs on Disney Channel on Monday, Jan. 18.
