Cox Communications has decided its new audience is cord cutters, and has devised a plan to keep them engaged.

Orange County, Calif., is seeing Cox’s new test first, which involves a test of flareWatch - a TV service with live channels and DVR. Its Internet TV trial uses Fanhattan’s newly announced Fan TV, a set-top box that puts usability at its core. This Orange County test will see the flareWatch service, which is available for a lower cost than popular cable plans (at $34.99 a month, about half of what most people pay for monthly cable plans), a major plus for cord cutters and the younger generations in general.

This also makes Cox the first cable giant to deliberately promote a service only for cord cutters.

Brief Take: Cox Communications is a trendsetter. Watch for more cable providers to follow suit.
