“Boy Meets World’s” Cory and Topanga, probably one of the most famous couples of the ‘90s, started as awkward tweens who are now in charge of their own awkward tween in the new spinoff series, “Girl Meets World.”

The well-known series finally gets its big comeback with the debut of Disney Channel’s comedy, directly following the original movie, “Zapped,” at 8 p.m. on Friday, June 27. Leading up the big premiere, Disney Channel has been reminding everyone of the old while hyping the new, focusing on the similarities between the two shows and the two characters that have been there for both: Cory and Topanga.

Its earliest teasers (above) paid homage to the original show, particularly trying to sneak past the parents in a move most likely started by a trouble-making friend.

Recognizing that not all of the Disney viewers were around for the original show, the channel then put the two together in an effort to introduce Cory and Topanga’s story. Promos concisely told seasons upon seasons of their romance in 30-second spot increments, putting together a timeline for those who were unfamiliar, and reminding the rest of us why we watched in the first place.

Disney’s next job was to combine the two stories into one, honoring Cory’s past (“I’ve already met the world. It’s your turn.”) while focusing on his daughter’s adventures this time around. Parents Cory and Topanga learn parenting while 7th grader Riley and 5-year-old Auggie put them to the test.

After months of speculation, anticipation and sneak peeks, “Girl Meets World” premieres Friday, June 27 on Disney.
