Comcast announced Thursday that it plans a free week-long “Sportstacular” campaign for its Xfinity TV customers that will unlock live programming from its sports packages both in and out of the home.
The move will give Xfinity customers who don’t normally purchase those programming tiers a taste of what’s on offer, such as the NFL Network, the Big Ten Network, ESPN Goal Line and Fox Sports 1.
Xfinity Sportstacular kicks off Nov. 11 and runs through Nov. 17.
Much of the programming will be available across screens and platforms, so users can watch on TV, via the Xfinity TV Go mobile app, or online at the Xfinity website.
“Xfinity TV has been the home for Most Live Sports for years, but we’ve never offered sports fans anything like this,” said Matt Lederer, Comcast Cable’s director, digital and sports marketing strategy. “We’re not only opening up access to live sporting events on the biggest screen in our customers’ homes; but with our Xfinity TV Go app, we’re making it possible for them to stream much of this sports programming over the Internet live to their devices as well.”
Xfinity created a microsite dedicated to the campaign to help sports fans find key matchups during the week, such as the Indianapolis Colts-Tennessee Titans game on NFL Network’s “Thursday Night Football.”
It’s not the first time that Comcast has unveiled week-long free campaigns to lure customers to various programming packages. Last March, the Xfinity On Demand: Watchathon promotion highlighted the company’s steaming services, while this year’s “Summer of Kids” event highlighted family and children’s programming.
