CNN and viral media sharing site BuzzFeed will release a YouTube channel today featuring archival and current news content designed to be shared over social media. The new channel will be called “CNN BuzzFeed” and will feature, to start, around three videos a week covering serious news events for BuzzFeed’s target audience of 18-34-year-olds.

The partnership benefits CNN as well, a network that hopes to stay relevant with younger audiences and recover from a recent ratings slide. The companies have not sought out advertising dollars to support the new channel, hoping to launch without letting sponsors dictate its content.
