​CBS’ TV production arm is gearing up to produce a slate of shows to be sold directly to SVODs like Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon.

CEO Les Moonves said on an earnings call Thursday that the company “will be producing more and more shows for more and more outlets, including major streaming companies and other emerging distributors.”

Re/Code points out that the move is a smart one for CBS, because it means they can make money from the likes of Netflix and company both by selling reruns for streaming, and original properties.

Brief Take: With an emerging generation of consumers increasingly flocking to SVODs for their TV viewing, CBS needs to diversify the market for its TV productions to stay competitive.
