Cartoon Network and The LEGO Group are teaming up to find a new way into animation and gaming lovers’ hearts.
Launching in 2014, the animation network and toy giant are co-producing a new franchise that will include animated content, digital gaming and LEGO collectible toys.
The animated programming, mostly short-form videos, will feature the Mixels characters and appear on-air on Cartoon Network as well as online at cartoonnetwork.com. Toys of those characters will hit the shelves in three waves throughout next year to coincide with the on-air content, while a mobile game will cover the Mixels’ world online.
Cartoon Network and LEGO hope that this franchise will create original content that kids can follow along with not only on-air but with a gaming experience online and collectible toys at home.
Brief Take: Creating characters and storylines that exist in games and online allows Cartoon Network to stay engaged with its young fans across many platforms.
