Station groups reported a mixed Q3 in earnings reports Thursday, with Belo and Media General showing drops while Journal Communications rose slightly.
Belo Corp. reported $166 million in total revenue for the third quarter of 2013, a 5.7% drop compared to last year. Fall off in political and Olympics revenue was on Belo’s NBC affiliates was to blame. Belo’s total non-Olympics revenue is up 3.1 percent year-over-year.
Journal Broadcast Group reported $39.8 million in revenue from television stations for Q3 2013, an increase of 2.2% from last year. Non-Olympics and political revenue increased 42.8%.
Media General reported $78.5 million in station revenue for the third quarter of 2013, a 16.4% drop over last year—again attributed to a fall in political and Olympics revenue.
