As expected, Bob Bakish has been named interim CEO and president at Viacom, the company’s third CEO in three months. Bakish takes over from Tom Dooley, who became interim CEO after Philippe Dauman departed in August. Bakish has been CEO and president of Viacom International Media Networks since 2011 and has been with the company since 1997.

Viacom and CBS are controlled by Sumner and Shari Redstone through their umbrella company, National Amusements. That company has asked Viacom and CBS, who at one time were part of the same company, to consider recombining. That decision has not been made yet, but should CBS again become part of Viacom, there’s a good chance CBS CEO Leslie Moonves would run the combined company.

Bakish also was named president and CEO of Viacom Global Entertainment Group (GEG), which combines the international businesses Bakish has been overseeing with the company’s music and entertainment group. That group includes MTV, Comedy Central, VH1, Spike, Logo, TV Land and CMT. Once a permanent CEO is named, assuming it’s not Bakish, he will likely remain head of GEG.

Meanwhile, Viacom’s Kids and Family Group will be reestablished as the Nickelodeon Group, and BET Networks will continue to operate separately.
