The mobile entertainment game is about to have yet another competitor.
AT&T CEO Randall Stephenson announced that the company is very interested in creating its own mobile entertainment service, and the company may be ready to unveil a product as soon as next month.
Speaking at the UBS Media and Technology conference on Tuesday, Stephenson said that his company may make a formal announcement within the next month that his company will offer a mobile service. (Stephenson said “it is something we are pursuing very, very aggressively.”) AT&T is also interested in producing its own original content, he said, for both TV outlets as well as mobile services like the one AT&T plans to launch.
Rumors previously circulated about the possibility of AT&T launching a mobile service like Verizon’s Go90, but was delayed due to its merger with DIRECTV. AT&T had registered the trademark for “Vodie,” an OTT product, but never launched.
