Antonio Banderas approaches a blank canvas that will eventually become “Guernica,” Pablo Picasso’s most famous work, in National Geographic’s first tease for season two of Genius.
The first season focused on Einstein, and now the anthology series goes beyond science to explore brilliance in the world of art.
Nat Geo wanted to create a tease by building a story where viewers don’t immediately see the protagonist, but can watch the story unfold in the details as he prepares to embark on painting a masterpiece. A flurry of show footage breaks away from the artist’s studio, offering glimpses of the season ahead, which culminates in the reveal of Banderas as Picasso.
The spot was shot with the help of Genius season two director, writer and showrunner Ken Biller on set of the season’s production in Budapest.
The tease is the first look at a rich tapestry of storytelling, and the first taste of what Nat Geo says will be a colorful and surprising marketing campaign leading up to the premiere of the 10-episode second season on April 24.
