To create the main titles for Netflix’s new superhero series, Jupiter’s Legacy, Antibody Creative Director Patrick Clair sought out the help of British graphic artist Mark “Jock” Simpson to turn the one-time comic, now live-action series, back into an animated sequence.
Jupiter’s Legacy—which comes from famed DC and Marvel creator Mark Millar and his production company Millarworld, which Netflix acquired in 2017—tells the story of the spawn of famous superheroes who are now trying to live up to their parents’ names, fame and deeds.
The series stars Josh Duhamel and Leslie Bibb as superhero parents, Utopia and Lady Liberty, who are also leaders of a Justice League-like organization called the Union of Justice. Their kids Chloe (Elena Kampouris) and Brandon (Andrew Horton) are having a hard time following in their parents’ footsteps, with Chloe spending most of her time in a drug-addicted haze and Brandon trying too hard to be like his dad to figure out who he actually wants to be.
To create the sequence, Simpson hand-drew the illustrations and then Clair and his team turned those into animations, Clair told Stash Media.
Jupiter’s Legacy premiered May 7 on Netflix.
