Being a teenager isn’t easy no matter where you live in the world. In Oscar-nominee Luca Guadagnino’s HBO/Sky series, We Are Who We Are, American teens Fraser (Jack Dylan Grazer) and Caitlin (Jordan Kristine Seamón) learn about friendship, life and love while growing up together on a U.S. military base in Veneto, Italy.
New arrival Fraser is shy and introverted but Caitlin, who has lived on the base for years and speaks Italian, introduces him to her close-knit group of friends. Fraser’s mother, Sarah (Chloë Sevigny) is the base’s new commander, and she and her military wife (Alice Braga) are raising Fraser together.
Caitlin lives with her father, Richard, (Scott Mescudi), mother, Jenny (Faith Alabi) and her older brother, Danny (Spence Moore III).
Also starring in the series are Francesca Scorsese as Caitlin’s outspoken and witty friend Britney; Corey Knight as Craig, a soldier in his twenties; Sebastiano Pigazzi as Craig’s younger brother; Enrico; Beatrice Barichella, as Valentina, an Italian girl, and Ben Taylor as Sam, Caitlin’s possessive boyfriend.
The series was an official selection of the 2020 Cannes Film Festival Directors’ Fortnight and will be a special screening as an official selection of the 2020 San Sebastián International Film Festival.
We Are Who We Are premieres Monday, Sept. 14 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on HBO and will stream on HBO Max.
