FX’s first look at season six of American Horror Story features a simple red and black logo. The design merges the number six with a question mark, answering little about the theme for season six.
The mysterious logo appeared Tuesday across FX’s social media accounts, in line with American Horror Story creator Ryan Murphy’s trend of revealing tidbits, like casting information, via Twitter.
On that note, Murphy confirmed actor Cheyenne Jackson’s announcement that he will be returning for season six with a tweet that read “It’s true.”
Lady Gaga says she will also be returning, saying “I can’t promise you how or when or anything like that.” And Sarah Paulson teased she’ll be back as well, telling Variety, “Now there’s nothing he [Murphy] could ask me to do that I would say no to.”
In the spring at PaleyFest, Murphy indeed invited familiar faces to season six.
“I will tell you that every darling person up here that wants to come back can come back,” he said while seated with Finn Wittrock, Wes Bentley, Matt Bomer, Angela Bassett, Denis O’Hare, Kathy Bates, Paulson and Jackson.
Perhaps most revealing is FX CEO John Landgraf’s comments that the season will take place in the present, with flashbacks.
“It’s set in the present although with echoes of the past,” he previously told reporters, Variety reports. “It’s set in two time periods … but principally in the present.”
As for the actual plot of season six, the logo prompted frustration and speculation leaning toward themes of Satanism, sacrifice, and the antichrist.
American Horror Story returns in October.
