AMC’s promo for The Terror begins by putting viewers deep underwater, staring up at the bottom of a ship surrounded by cracking ice, subjected to screams from the scene above as the camera sinks into the depths of the ocean.

The spot by Imaginary Forces is nothing short of chilling for AMC’s upcoming historical thriller that follows the 129-member crew of a Royal Naval expedition who are searching for the Arctic’s Northwest Passage.

The series chronicles the actual polar voyage, from 1845 to 1848, of the HMS Erebus and HMS Terror, which ended up in trapped in ice in the Arctic, never to be heard from again—until wreckage of the ships were discovered in 2014 and 2016 off the coast of King William Island.

Many have speculated on the fate of those aboard, and The Terror, based on Dan Simmons’ novel of the same name, combines fact with fiction by introducing a mythological monstrous predator as the sailors fight to survive.

The series is from executive producers Ridley Scott, David Kajganich and Soo Hugh.

The Terror captures a rare combination of fascinating history, complex and flawed characters, the inextinguishable human spirit and the horror and promise of an uncharted world,” said Kajganich and Hugh in a press release.

The series stars Jared Harris (The Crown) and Tobias Menzies (Outlander).

The 10-episode first season debuts with a two-hour premiere on March 26 at 9 p.m. on AMC.
