AMC Networks and the Museum of the Moving Image in Astoria, Queens, New York are partnering on a new exhibition, “Living with The Walking Dead,” as AMC’s zombie hit goes into its final run.

The exhibition, which will explore the show’s development and production, will open June 25 and run through January 1, 2023. Tickets go on sale May 5 to museum members and on May 9 to the public. Throughout the exhibit’s run, the museum will also offer Walking Dead screenings and other events.

“It’s wonderful to once again be partnering with AMC Networks, this time to present an exhibition devoted to the long-running original series The Walking Dead,” said Carl Goodman, MoMI executive director, in a statement. “More than just a television show, it is a cultural phenomenon that is adored by legions of fans, who celebrate the innovative, engaging, and immersive world that its makers have built, and for its diverse cast of characters. The exhibition will bleed outward from our temporary exhibitions gallery and into our theaters, classrooms, and other public spaces.”

The museum previously partnered with AMC Networks on the exhibitions Matthew Weiner’s Mad Men in 2015 and From Mr. Chips to Scarface: Walter White’s Transformation in Breaking Bad in 2013.

“Over 11 seasons and 177 episodes, The Walking Dead has built a vibrant and massive global fan following, becoming one of the most beloved franchises in television,” said Dan McDermott, president of entertainment and AMC Studios for AMC Networks, also in a statement. “We’re delighted to work with MoMI on an exhibition and lineup of events to commemorate this beloved series’ historic run, the immensely talented creative team, cast, and crew who brought it to life, and give this incredible fanbase a new and exciting way to experience their favorite show.”

The exhibition, which will be mounted in the museum’s changing exhibitions gallery on its third floor, will include original costumes and props, concept art, storyboards, scripts and some of the many prosthetics used to create the show’s legions of zombies.

Based on Robert Kirkman’s best-selling graphic novels, The Walking Dead premiered on AMC on Halloween 2010 and went on to become the most-watched launch and series in cable history. In the 12 years the series has been on the air, it has expanded into multiple spinoffs, including Talking Dead, Fear the Walking Dead and The Walking Dead: World Beyond. Coming in 2023 are two more spinoffs – one featuring Daryl (Norman Reedus) and Carol (Melissa McBride) – as well as an anthology series: Tales of the Walking Dead.

The Walking Dead is produced by AMC Studios and executive produced by Scott M. Gimple, Chief Content Officer of The Walking Dead Universe, Showrunner Angela Kang, Robert Kirkman, David Alpert, Gale Anne Hurd, Greg Nicotero, Denise Huth, and Tom Luse.
