BBC America viewers are in for a special treat after their beloved “Orphan Black’s” season finale this summer, because the channel just announced their first original comedy, “Almost Royal,” is set to debut directly after the season’s finale on June 21.
Its first original scripted comedy series, “Almost Royal” tells the story of two spoiled siblings, George and Poppy Carlton, who claim connections to royalty, and are now hiring camera crews to follow their cross-country road trip of the good old US of A, even though they might not be prepared for independence or the real world at large. The mockumentary-style show was developed in-house at BBC America and is being produced by Burning Bright Productions.
“Almost Royal” will premiere its seven-episode season directly following the second season finale of “Orphan Black” on June 21.

Brief Take: Using “Orphan Black” as a starting-off point gives this new comedy a great chance, as BBC America ramps up original programming with a successful existing series, even though the two shows vary widely in tone.
