ABC has officially gamified the reality series The Bachelor with the launch of “The Bachelor Fantasy League.”
The network teamed up with ESPN, also a Disney-owned network, to power the contest, which is available both on ABC’s web site and within the ESPN Fantasy app.
For years, legions of unofficial brackets and leagues have been in place, according to Variety.
Players will be able to register for free and can challenge friends, colleagues, or random people they find through the “#BachelorNation” hashtag on Twitter. The big game is predicting the top four women who make it to the hometown dates portion of the season, but there are weekly contests that ask players to predict whether certain events will occur within that week’s episode. Players will earn points for correct predictions.
Aside from the usual goal of being the most accurate, each point is an entry into the grand-prize drawing for a chance to win a trip for two to Los Angeles — hotel and airfare included — two tickets to Disneyland, and two tickets to The Bachelorette: After the Final Rose after-show for the season filming in the summer of 2017.
The network is referring to the league as “The Bachelor Fantasy League sweepstakes,” in order to indicate that the league itself does not constitute as gambling.
Hosted by Chris Harrison, The Bachelor is a produced by Next Entertainment in association with Warner Horizon Television. Executive producers are Mike Fleiss, Elan Gale, Bennett Graebner and Nicole Woods.
The next season of The Bachelor, starring two-time The Bachelorette runner-up Nick Viall, begins Jan. 2 on ABC.
