ABC turned out to be the big winner at Wednesday’s 48th Annual Country Music Awards, with the network scoring its best Niesen numbers since the Oscars eight months ago.
The Carrie Underwood and Brad Paisley-hosted telecast drew 16.1 million viewers overall, down only slightly from last year’s 16.8 million total viewers.
CBS came in second with 9.2 million viewers for Survivor.
ABC centered the marketing campaign for the CMAs around the two country superstars hosting the event for the seventh time. Good Morning America’s Robin Roberts also helmed a “Countdown to the CMAs” that featured nominee interviews and performances of iconic country songs.
