When ABC re-launched its streaming service with a new user interface, the network also added full seasons of 38 older shows, along with seven original short-form digital series.
Viewers will be able to watch series like Felicity, My So Called Life and Ugly Betty on ABC.com, and ABC mobile apps and connected TV devices, without a pay-TV subscription.
“Our team has completely re‑imagined the digital viewing experience for ABC fans,” Karin Gilford, SVP of digital media, ABC Television Network, said in a press release. “In addition to the current ABC shows that fans know and love, we are introducing new ABCd original digital series that are fun, fresh and perfect for mobile, and we are making full seasons of all-time favorite shows available for bingeing.”
While viewers will able to access the new content from any device, the offering goes hand in hand with ABC’s redesigned user interface that improves discovery and navigation elements on iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch and Apple TV devices.
“Fans on Apple devices will benefit from a dynamic new interface that makes it easier to find shows,” Gilford said.
ABC also expanded its 24-hour live stream to 14 Hearst Television ABC station markets across the country.
“All of this allows us to expand beyond the bounds of our linear schedule and extend ABC storytelling to viewers across screens and platforms,” Gilford said.
New ABC Digital Series
ABC’s seven new series were developed in-house by ABC Comedy Development, ABC Daytime and ABC Digital Media. The network is also planning monthly rollouts of more than 40 additional series that are currently in the works.
“With our new digital comedy series, our creative team is able to experiment and push storytelling boundaries to create content that is daring, empowering, inclusive, emotional and true to life,” said Samie Falvey, EVP, comedy and international scripted development, ABC Entertainment. “We hope this will be an opportunity for our existing talent to flex their creative muscles, and also an opportunity for audiences to discover and champion new emerging content creators.”
Digital Series include:
